Denkmal Adolf Pichler
Der Adolf-Pichler-Platz ist ein Platz in Innsbruck. Er ist ob seiner Lage im Zentrum einer der am meisten von Einheimischen und Touristen frequentierten Plätze mit wechselvoller Vergangenheit.
Lage
Heute in der Stadtmitte von Innsbruck, an der Rückseite des Rathauskomplexes zwischen Stainer- und Fallmerayerstraße gelegen, befand er sich ursprünglich vor den Toren der mittelalterlichen Stadt und wurde ab dem Spätmittelalter als Innsbrucker Spitalsfriedhof genutzt. Heute verbindet er den ihn im Osten und Süden umgebenden modernen Rathauskomplex und die aus der Gründerzeit stammenden Häuser an der Nord- und Westseite mit der Stainer- und Fallmerayerstraße.
Name
Der Platz, ursprünglich nach dem österreichischen Erzherzog Karl Ludwig, der als Statthalter in Innsbruck residierte, benannt, wurde in den Jahren 1895 auf einer Teilfläche des aufgelassenen Spitalfriedhofes angelegt. Dort fanden im Jahr 2000 archäologische Grabungen statt. Seinen heutigen Namen Adolf-Pichler-Platz erhielt er erst 1930 nach dem schon 1909 dort errichteten Denkmal des Geologen, Mineralogen und Heimatdichters Adolf Pichler.
