WordGame

The English word games are:

Lettris

Lettris is a curious tetris-clone game where all the bricks have the same square shape but different content. Each square carries a letter. To make squares disappear and save space for other squares you have to assemble English words (left, right, up, down) from the falling squares.

boggle

Boggle gives you 3 minutes to find as many words (3 letters or more) as you can in a grid of 16 letters. You can also try the grid of 16 letters. Letters must be adjacent and longer words score better. See if you can get into the grid Hall of Fame !

D・W・グリフィス（David Wark Griffith, 1875年1月22日 - 1948年7月23日）は、アメリカ合衆国ケンタッキー州出身の映画監督。父親が南北戦争の英雄ジェイコブ・ウォーク・グリフィス大佐。幼少時には黒人の乳母がいた。

アメリカの映画草創期に東海岸のバイオグラフ社で『ドリーの冒険』（1908年）を皮切りに、400本以上のショートフィルムを制作した後、新天地を求めて、形を成しつつあったハリウッドに渡り、1915年にアメリカ映画最初の超大作『國民の創生』を制作した。KKKの誕生秘話を南部白人の立場から描いた物語だったため、北部においては上映拒否されたこともあったが、作品自体は大ヒットする。しかし、同時期にイタリアで制作されたジョヴァンニ・パストローネの『カビリア』のスケールの大きさに打ちのめされ、これに対抗すべく翌年『イントレランス』を制作した。四時代の物語が同時並行的に描かれる当時としては革新的な作品だったため、難解との評判を呼び、アメリカ本国では商業的に失敗したが、ヨーロッパ諸国では絶賛され、特にレーニンはこれに感銘を受け、ロシア全土における上映を命じた。

その後『散り行く花』（1919年）や『東への道』（1920年）など、サイレント、トーキーを問わず映画史に残る数々の傑作を残したが、トーキーには適応できず、1930年代以降は忘れ去られてしまった。

クローズアップ、クロスカッティング等の様々な映画技法を生み出すと共に、大々的で系統的な編集をしたので、「映画の父」と呼ばれており、カール・テオドア・ドライヤーなどグリフィスを敬愛する映画作家は少なくない。

サイレント時代を代表する名女優リリアン・ギッシュ（『國民の創生』、『散り行く花』」、『東への道』および『嵐の孤児』に主演）や、アメリカの恋人と呼ばれたメアリー・ピックフォードを育てたことでも、功績がある。特にリリアン・ギッシュとは、生涯を通じて芸術家同士として尊敬し合う友情で、結ばれていた。

1936年アカデミー特別賞を受賞。
