Empresa Nacional de Ferrocarriles del Estado
La Empresa Nacional de Ferrocarriles del Estado, también conocida por su acrónimo ENFE, es una empresa ferroviaria boliviana creada en 1953.
División
Tras la capitalización de 1996, ENFE fue vendida por el ex-presidente de la ex-república de Bolivia Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada en dos partes diferenciadas:
- La red andina fue vendida a la empresa chilena Cruz Blanca, que a su vez al poco tiempo la vendió a la también chilena Luksic
- La red oriental fue vendida a Genesee Wyoming empresa estado-unidensa.
Tras la división las redes fueron renombradas como «FCA» (Ferrocarril Andina) y «FCO »(Ferroviaria Oriental).
Ferrocarril Andina
El gobierno de Bolivia adjudicó la suscripción de acciones a la «Empresa Ferroviaria Andina S.A». mediante Decreto Supremo Nº 24186 de fecha 15 de diciembre de 1995. La empresa, en su calidad de suscriptor, representó a un grupo de inversionistas que estaba conformado por Bolivian Rail Investors Company Inc. y Blue Ocean Overseas Inc. A partir del 14 de marzo de 1996 toda la administración y operación de la nueva empresa fue asumida con sus propios trabajadores y ejecutivos, iniciándose así las actividades de forma totalmente autónoma y privada.
El 28 de agosto de 1996 se constituyó ante notario como sociedad anónima bajo la denominación «Empresa Ferroviaria Andina S.A.».
Ferroviaria Oriental
Constituida como «Ferroviaria Oriental S.A.», se dedica al transporte de carga y pasajeros. Administra una red de 1.244 km de vía férrea: al este hasta la frontera con Brasil, al sur hasta la frontera con Argentina y al norte hasta la ciudad de Montero.
El área de influencia de la red ferroviaria cubre un 30% de la población boliviana,un 43% del Producto Interior Bruto, un 37% de la producción agroindustrial y un 40% de la actividad comercial
