Ɩ (minuscule : ɩ), appelé iota latin, est une lettre additionnelle qui est utilisée pour écrire certaines langues africaines comme le kabiyé. Sa graphie est basée sur la minuscule de la lettre iota grecque (ι). Sa forme majuscule possède souvent une crosse pour la différentier du I majuscule.

Utilisation

Bien que souvent visuellement identique au iota grecque, le iota latin n’est pas utilisé dans les notations de logique.

Le ɩ minuscule était utilisé dans l’Alphabet phonétique international pour représenter une voyelle pré-fermée inférieure antérieure non arrondie mais a été remplacé par la lettre petite capitale I (ɪ) en 1989.

Le iota est utilisé pour representé une voyelle pré-fermée inférieure antérieure non arrondie (API : ɪ) dans certains orthographes de plusieurs langues africaines : abidji, agni sanvi, bété, bisa, dagara, dida, godié, kabiyé, kasim, koozime, kroumen tépo, lama, lokpa, moore, niaboua, nuni, sissala, téén, toura, wobé, yaouré [1]
