Pole of Freedoms
The Pole of Freedoms (Polo delle Libertà) was a centre-right electoral coalition in Italy, launched by Silvio Berlusconi in 1994. (The sense of "pole" that is the translation of polo is the one implied by expressions like "two opposite poles".)
It was originally present only in Northern Italy (while the Pole of Good Government was present in Southern Italy) and was composed of Forza Italia, Lega Nord, the Christian Democratic Centre, Pannella List, the Union of the Centre, the Liberal Democratic Pole and the Liberal Party.
In 1996 it was present throughout Italy and was composed of Forza Italia, National Alliance, Pannella-Sgarbi List, the Christian Democratic Centre and the United Christian Democrats. In 2000, after the re-entry of Lega Nord, the coalition was transformed into the House of Freedoms.
