Riviera dei Cedri
Riviera dei Cedri è il toponimo che identifica una fascia di territorio dell' Alto Tirreno Cosentino in Calabria che comprende, tradizionalmente, anche una parte del territorio montano che si trova immediatamente a ridosso della zona costiera.
Il nome deriva dalla diffusa coltivazione del cedro della varietà cedro liscio Diamante, un agrume prezioso dalla coltivazione difficile e che in questo territorio in passato era coltivato anche in piccoli appezzamenti di terreno.
Sempre in passato, nella zona rivierasca esistevano numerose coltivazioni di cedro nonché alcune industrie di trasformazione.
Attualmente la produzione è stata valorizzata grazie all'azione sinergica del Consorzio del Cedro di Calabria, ente che raccoglie più di 100 cedricoltori, e che si pone come volano dell'economia della Riviera. La sua azione è rivolta alla tutela, conservazione, valorizzazione e commercializzazione del prezioso agrume.
Fanno parte della riviera 22 comuni compresi fra Tortora e Paola. Fra questi, per la produzione del cedro, spiccano Scalea, Santa Maria del Cedro e Diamante oltre un certo numero di centri montani che mediamente distano dalla costa non più di qualche chilometro e quindi facilmente raggiungibili. La parte montana è costituita da appendici del massiccio del Pollino, una parte del territorio della Riviera dei cedri è compresa nel Parco del Pollino.
