What Love Has...Joined Together (album)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What Love Has...Joined Together was a 1970 album by R&B group The Miracles (aka "Smokey Robinson & The Miracles") on Motown Records' Tamla label (TS301). A special concept album consisting solely of six extended- length love songs,it charted at #97 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart, and reached the Top 10 of Billboard's R&B album chart. This album was unique in that it had no single releases. The Miracles do some of their all-time best singing on this album , with rich, lush musical orchestration. Not bound by the traditional "12 songs per album" rule that was the industry standard at the time, extra care and time was used in the recording and production of each track. It featured songs written by noted composers, such as Stevie Wonder, (My Cherie Amour) ,Berry Gordy, Frank Wilson , Brenda Holloway and her sister Patrice Holloway (You've Made Me So Very Happy), Burt Bacharach and Hal David (This Guy's In Love With You) , Marvin Gaye (If This World Were Mine) , The Beatles' John Lennon & Paul McCartney, (And I Love Her) , and Miracles members Smokey Robinson and Bobby Rogers (What Love Has Joined Together) . The Miracles performed a medley of this album's songs on a 1970 telecast of NBC"s The Andy Williams Show. What Love Has...Joined Together features Miracles members Smokey Robinson , Bobby Rogers , Pete Moore , and the late Ronnie White on the front cover, and Claudette Robinson on the back cover. Miracles member Marv Tarplin, contributed some of his best guitar work on this album, but was not featured on its cover. Although Claudette (Mrs.Smokey) Robinson had never really left the Miracles, she had only been featured on a few of the group's album covers since 1963, including Greatest Hits from the Beginning (center insert),(1964), One Dozen Roses (1970),the back of Away We a Go-Go and this album. The album has been and continues to be a popular staple at weddings. This album was the forerunner of Smokey's landmark "Quiet Storm" album of a few years later. One of the rarest of The Miracles' albums/CDs, What Love Has....Joined Together was only released on CD once,in the early 90's, and is now a valuable out-of-print collectors' item, commanding well over $100.00 in the collectors' market.
